Your Google Universal Analytics is undergoing a big change effective on June 30, 2023. Will you be ready when they switch to Google Analytics 4? How will you migrate to the new GA4? And how will it affect your SEO?
Google Analytics 4 is replacing Universal Analytics. As of July 1, 2023, all standard Universal Analytics properties will stop processing data. That’s the bad news. The good news is that it will only take you about 15 minutes to perform this migration using your desktop browser. Caution: Do not use the Google mobile app for this.
Once you complete your migration setup, you’ll be on your way to getting the actionable, privacy-safe customer insights you need for your practice with Google Analytics 4.
It began back in March 2023. If you didn’t already create a GA4 property, Google created one for you, unless you opted out. Your new property was based on the settings in your Universal Analytics property. If you have since created a GA4 property, and that property is connected to a Universal Analytics property, Google will copy over any configurations (e.g., goals, audiences, etc.) from your Universal Analytics property that you did not mark as complete in your GA4 property, unless you opted out.
After July 1, 2023, you'll be able to access your previously processed data in your Universal Analytics property for at least six months. Google knows your data is important to you, and they strongly encourage you to export your historical reports during this time.
In the coming months, Google will provide a future date when existing Universal Analytics properties will no longer be available. After this future date, you'll no longer be able to see your Universal Analytics reports in the Analytics interface or access your Universal Analytics data via the API.
We strongly encourage you to make the switch to Google Analytics 4 as soon as possible. Doing so will allow you to build the necessary historical data and usage in the new experience, preparing you for continuity once Universal Analytics is no longer available.
